Counseling is provided to all children in the Centennial School District. The primary function of the school counselor is to offer guidance services in a personalized manner to each child in the building through a variety of group and individual activities. These may include classroom guidance sessions which address communication skills, decision making, the perception and expression of feelings, and the development of self-esteem. Specific focus groups also meet with counselors, such as the Children of Divorce Club. Other groups meet for purposes such as monitoring students’ progress using contract books, and class meetings are held to promote successful growth and learning. Students are assisted in making long- and short-range plans, setting realistic goals, and sorting out academic, career, and social alternatives with the help of school counselors. Parents are welcome to call their child's counselor at any time.
