2020 Reading Olympics Elementary Competition on Thursday, April 2,
at 6:00 p.m at Willow Dale Elementary School, Warminster, PA
“The Bucks County Reading Olympics inspires kids to become lifelong readers. Since 1993, the Reading Olympics has been motivating students in Bucks County to read and discuss books. The purpose of this event is to encourage children to read more than they currently do, to read a greater variety of books, and to enjoy the excitement of reading and talking about books.” Bucks County IU
Here at Willow Dale, Reading Olympics is a voluntary program open to all fourth and fifth grade students who would like to be part of a team effort to read from a list of 45 books and attend a county-wide competition in March. In order to qualify for a team, your child would agree to read (or listen to) ten books from the Reading Olympics list which can be found above. Several copies of each title are available in the school library. Teams will begin meeting in November during some of their recess or lunch periods to discuss the books and prepare for the competition. While we use the word “competition” to describe this event, we really consider Reading Olympics to be a “celebration of reading” where students of all abilities are encouraged to challenge themselves as readers and have fun sharing books with fellow readers!
