Social Emotional & Academic Learning (SEAL)

The Centennial School District is bolstering its approach to staff and students’ social-emotional learning (SEL).

SEL is the process through which all young people and adults:

  • develop healthy identities
  • manage emotions
  • achieve personal and collective goals
  • feel and show empathy for others
  • establish and maintain supportive relationships
  • make responsible and caring decisions. (Committee for Children, 2021)

SEL is modeled and learned

  • at home
  • in school
  • in the community.

And these skills develop throughout our lifetimes.

Centennial added the "A" to SEL to create SEAL. This reflects our belief that social and emotional learning is an integral part of, and helps to advance, academic learning.
