Student Advisory Council (SAC)

The Superintendent wants to engage students as true partners in the educational process. Therefore, we invite our middle schools and high school to have student representatives to serve as the Student Advisory Council (SAC) members as we work to build a solid student-school partnership.

The SAC will consist of approximately 14 members (not including staff) who will meet to discuss important District issues involving the whole school community and the impact on our students. Members are selected via recommendations from school principals.

SAC Members will:

  • Actively participate in 4 meetings per year alongside the Superintendent and staff

  • Share input on upcoming policy decisions and operational practices within the Centennial School District

  • Discuss student perspectives on topics impacting the District

  • Build relationships with other students throughout the District

  • Provide feedback to the Superintendent

  • Be responsible for sharing, promoting, and communicating information to students in the community in collaboration with their respective building principals.



  1. To develop and promote a robust student-school partnership.

  2. To improve communications and understanding between the Centennial School District staff and the students it serves.

  3. To encourage student participation in school-related activities.


  1. The SAC shall not become a policy-making body or manage or direct the District or school administration. However, it is assumed that the District will consider feedback from the SAC in making decisions through improved communication and understanding.

  2. The SAC shall operate with the cooperation of the District staff and within the policies and procedures of the Centennial School District.

  3. All discussions will pertain to the whole school, not individual students or staff members.

  4. All business will be conducted with good faith compliance regarding federal, state, and local laws, school district policies, and procedures (administrative regulations).

  5. The SAC will operate on a majority consensus.

  6. All SAC members will respect differences and wait to be recognized, building a collaboration, understanding, and patient culture.


  1. Attend/Convene at least four meetings throughout the year.

  2. Provide input/feedback to the administration on matters related to educational needs and issues about CSD and provide actionable suggestions and priorities that involve the District or school as a whole.

  3. Aid in evaluating existing programs through a student perspective.

  4. Serve as a positive student ambassador and advocate for CSD.

  5. Act as a liaison between the administration and the student body, sharing positive and factual information to build student-school relationships.


  1. Membership shall be open to students within the Centennial  School District and staff.

  2. Their respective school principals will select student representatives, or a member may be appointed by the Superintendent.


  1. Officers of this SAC shall be a Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Secretary, and Assistant Secretary

  2. Selections shall be held by nomination and a majority consensus.


1. Chairperson: The Chairperson shall:

  1. Preside at all meetings of the SAC and assure that the meetings are conducted promptly,

  2. In collaboration with the Superintendent or designee, assist with the preparation of an agenda before each meeting,

  3. Make contact with individuals or organizations wherever necessary to carry out the programs and aims of the SAC,

  4. Support the Superintendent to ensure efficient meetings,

  5. Lead meetings in collaboration with the Superintendent or designee.

2. Vice-Chairperson: The Vice-Chairperson shall:

  1. Perform the duties of the Chairperson in their absence,

  2. Lead meetings with the Superintendent or designee in the absence of the Chairperson,

  3. Support the Chairperson to ensure efficient meetings and communications.

3. Secretary: The Secretary shall:

  1. Take detailed minutes of all meetings and send them to the District Communications representative and Superintendent’s Administrative Assistant,

  2. Maintain attendance records with sign-in sheets at each meeting and forward them to the Superintendent’s Administrative Assistant or designee person,

  3. Review the minutes prior with the Superintendent’s designee for accuracy.

4. Assistant Secretary: The Assistant Secretary shall:

  1. Perform the duties of the Secretary in their absence,

  2. Represent the position of the Secretary in their absence.
