WTHS Equity Student Book Club

With the generous grant from CEF, students select their preferred choice of culturally relevant titles to read. The books represent the students' interests and reflect the diversity of students within WTHS. Since assigned literature is sometimes void of reading materials that either were written by African American, Latino, Asian, authors or which prominently feature the diverse cultures represented in the school, this club acknowledges and appreciates the cultures and attempts to build upon the uses of language and literacy and help students express their cultural uniqueness and share their personal stories (Neuman, 1994).

During our time together, we will discuss what we liked and didn't, get to know one another more, and of course, choose some awesome new books to read! The only ask is that students finish the book they selected or try to do so by the next meet-up. The popular books will spark conversation and community between students and teachers as we read for fun. The club is for students in grades 9 through 12.

Bring yourself and your thoughts and opinions. (We'll bring the snacks)
