K-12 Mathematics Vision Statement

The Centennial School District will ensure that all students will leave our K–12 education program as global learners ready to apply mathematical skills and to use mathematical problem solving to make sense of the world around them with success and confidence.

Secondary Mathematics Instruction

The Centennial School District is committed to providing a rigorous, research-based, and standards-aligned mathematics curriculum that is student-centered and engaging. Teaching strategies rely on the recommendations of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and are based solidly on the methodological research in teaching mathematics. The essential elements of the math curriculum include collaborative mathematical discourse, problem-based instruction, and mixed-spaced practice to support the mastery of mathematics.

Resources:

  • CPM Mathematics - this resource is Centennial School District's core resource for instruction at the Secondary level.
  • desmos - this free, online graphing calculator provides students the opportunity to plot a variety of different equations, from lines to parabolas, create a graph from a data set, solve functions and inequalities, graph exponents and logs, trig functions, precalculus and calculus problems, and even statistics and probability problems.
  •  IXL - this resource provides students the opportunity to personalize their individualized learning path to build on their knowledge and remediate gaps in understanding.
  •  Khan Academy Math - this resource provides students with an opportunity to practice at their own pace, first filling in gaps in their understanding and then accelerating their learning.
